When a traveller looks for a hotel in Istanbul, the journey usually starts on Google: “boutique hotel Sultanahmet”, “hotel with Bosphorus view”, “hotel near Galata Tower”. First come the map and hotel results and the booking platforms (OTAs), then travel content. Some travellers plan directly with ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI features. The hotel's own website is often the weakest link in that chain.
This page describes the SEO and GEO consulting I offer to hotels, boutique hotels, guesthouses and tour or experience businesses. The aim is not to cut out the OTAs but to build your own visibility so that a larger share of bookings comes direct.
Short answer: My hotel and tourism SEO consulting covers structuring the hotel's own site correctly in each market's language, complete information in map and hotel results, seasonally planned content, technical foundations and accurate representation in AI assistants. The goal is to reduce dependence on OTAs and strengthen the path to direct bookings; I make no promises about rankings or occupancy.
The SEO problems hotels and tourism businesses face most often
From city hotels to coastal guesthouses, these are the problems I see most in a first review:
- Losing to OTAs even on your own name: Booking platforms are more visible than the official site when people search the hotel's name.
- Machine translation: English, German, Arabic or Russian pages published straight from machine translation, with missing or broken hreflang.
- Booking flow issues: A booking engine on a separate domain that loads slowly or breaks analytics tracking.
- Seasonal mismatch: Seasonal content goes live as the season starts, missing the months when search demand rises.
- Heavy media: High-resolution galleries and videos slow pages down.
- Inconsistent information: Different room names, amenities or contact details on the map listing, OTA profiles and the site.
What hotel and tourism SEO consulting covers
Brand search and direct bookings
We make sure the official site, the map listing and the knowledge panel are accurate and current for searches on the hotel's name. If booking direct offers guests real advantages (easier communication, flexible terms), we state them clearly on the site.
Multilingual structure
A separate URL for each market, correct hreflang, content checked by a native speaker and page structure that follows search habits in that country. I cover the infrastructure side in technical SEO fundamentals.
Local and experience content
We produce content that only someone who knows the area could write: transport, places within walking distance, seasonal tips. This content improves the chance of being a source in long-tail searches and AI answers; I discuss that shift in Google AI Mode in Turkey. For the map listing, reviews and NAP consistency we follow the local SEO guide.
Technical performance and structured data
We work on image optimisation, Core Web Vitals, booking engine integration and Hotel or LodgingBusiness structured data. If the booking engine runs on another domain, we pay particular attention to cross-domain tracking.
Work plan: what we do and what we measure in hotel SEO
| Area of work | What we do | What we measure |
|---|---|---|
| Brand search | Official site, map listing and consistent information | The official site's click share on searches for the hotel's name |
| Multilingual SEO | URL structure, hreflang, localised content | Impressions, clicks and booking starts by country and language |
| Local visibility | Map listing, photos, review response process | Website clicks, direction requests and calls from the profile |
| Content and seasonal plan | Destination, experience and seasonal content | Pre-season impressions on long-tail queries |
| Technical performance | Image optimisation, Core Web Vitals, booking flow | LCP, INP and CLS values; drop-off in booking steps |
| AI visibility | Question set testing in each market's language, brand mentions | Mentions and accuracy of details in assistant answers |
Occupancy depends on too many factors to be tied to SEO alone: price, season, OTA promotions, economic conditions. So we track bookings and enquiries that start from organic search separately; the setup is explained in the SEO reporting guide.
From the first call to the first 90 days
- Intro call (30 minutes): We discuss room count, target markets, season structure, OTA mix and the booking engine.
- Audit (first 2-3 weeks): A technical crawl, language versions, brand search results, the map listing and measurement setup.
- Season calendar: We identify when search demand rises in each target market and order the work around that calendar.
- Implementation (months 1-2): Technical fixes, hreflang, booking tracking, structured data and brand search issues.
- Content (months 2-3): Localised pages and seasonal content for priority markets, plus a review response process.
- Day-90 review: Indicators are compared with the starting point and we plan preparation for the next season.
Work that starts a few weeks before the season rarely pays off in that season. The most productive start is as the previous season closes.
What makes tourism SEO different: languages, seasonality and OTA dependence
Multilingual content
Each language is a separate market. A German traveller and a family from the Gulf search for the same hotel with different questions, so you need localisation, not translation. Do not redirect visitors to another language based on IP; let them choose.
Seasonality
Search demand rises months before the season. Comparing with the same period last year in Search Console keeps you from mistaking seasonal swings for failure.
OTA dependence
OTAs are an important sales channel, and most hotels should not abandon them. The problem is relying on a single channel. SEO helps restore balance by strengthening your own site on brand searches and making it visible during the research stage before booking.
Prices, promotions and reviews
Discount announcements, reviews displayed on the site and social media partnerships fall under consumer protection rules; in 2026 Turkey's Regulation on Commercial Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices was amended on how discounts, consumer reviews and social media promotions are presented. I recommend reviewing these pages with your legal adviser. I show how to reply to guest reviews in how to respond to Google reviews.
Who an independent consultant suits, and who it does not
I do the work myself and take on a limited number of businesses at a time. That model is not right for every tourism business.
- Good fit: Boutique and city hotels that want to grow the share of direct bookings from their own site.
- Good fit: Businesses entering foreign markets that want to sort out their multilingual site.
- Good fit: Tourism businesses selling tours, experiences or transfers through their own site.
- Not a fit: Anyone expecting a quick occupancy boost this season; paid channels such as performance marketing may suit that goal better.
- Not a fit: Large chains running many properties; at that scale an in-house team usually works alongside an agency.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the fee for hotel SEO set?
It depends on the number of languages, the site's technical condition, the number of properties and content needs, so I do not quote a figure here. You can see my working models on the pricing page and what drives market rates in SEO agency pricing.
Should we drop the OTAs altogether?
No, for most hotels that is not realistic. OTAs are a valuable channel, especially for reaching new markets. The goal of SEO is to grow your own site's share and improve the channel balance.
How many languages should our site have?
That depends on where your guests actually come from and which markets you target. A language version you cannot keep at good quality can do more harm than having none. I usually suggest starting with the two or three strongest markets and expanding.
Our booking engine is on a separate domain. Does that affect SEO?
Ranking booking pages is usually not the goal; the real impact is on measurement. If cross-domain tracking is not set up correctly, bookings from organic search get credited to another channel. I check this flow specifically during the audit.
What do AI assistants look at when recommending hotels?
There is no exact formula for how each assistant picks its sources. In practice, clear and consistent information on the official site, brand mentions on trusted sources and recent reviews help assistants describe the hotel correctly. I explain the method in the GEO implementation guide.
Do you work with tour and experience businesses?
Yes. Multilingual structure, seasonality and platform dependence matter in the same way for tour, activity and transfer businesses. The scope depends on whether you sell through your own site or through platforms.
