Trendyol Store or Your Own E-commerce Site? An Organic Traffic Perspective

Brands that sell well on Trendyol often ask me: “Do we really need our own website?” It's a fair question. The marketplace offers a ready audience, payments and logistics, while your own site takes setup, content and marketing work. From an organic traffic point of view, though, the two don't do the same job.

In this post I look at the question through search visibility and long-term digital assets rather than sales volume or commissions. I have no commercial relationship with Trendyol; check the marketplace's current seller terms and commission structure in Trendyol's official seller resources.

Short answer: A Trendyol store gives you access to the platform's own traffic and search strength, but the value its product pages build on Google and the customer relationship largely depend on the platform's rules. Your own e-commerce site grows more slowly, yet its search visibility, content and data remain your brand's assets. For most brands the healthiest path is using both, each in a different role.

How do a Trendyol store and your own site differ in organic traffic?

We're talking about two separate search systems. On Trendyol, customers find products through the platform's internal search and category listings. On your own site, most traffic comes from search engines like Google and, increasingly, from sources cited by AI assistants. When marketplace pages show up in Google for a product search, that's where the two worlds meet.

The most important row is authority. A news story or blog link about your Trendyol product usually points to the platform's page, so the value of that link accumulates on the platform's domain.

What drives visibility on Trendyol?

Trendyol's ranking criteria aren't published in detail, so be wary of content promising exact formulas. The principles I see in practice within the marketplace are: product titles that use the words customers search with, complete category and attribute fields, clear images, competitive delivery terms and customer reviews.

There's one part of this work that resembles Google SEO: understanding how customers search. The keyword work behind your marketplace titles also helps when building the category structure of your own site. The difference is that marketplace rules belong to the platform and can change, while on your own site you make your own decisions within Google's general guidelines.

Long-term SEO advantages of your own e-commerce site

Your own domain is an asset that gains value over time. The main organic traffic advantages:

  • Category pages let you target broad commercial searches (e.g. “organic cotton baby romper”) under your own brand.
  • Blog posts and guides capture users researching before they buy.
  • Backlinks and brand mentions you earn build your own domain's authority.
  • People searching for your brand name land on a page you control.
  • Structured data, product descriptions and FAQs let you describe products to search engines and AI assistants in your own words.
  • You measure visitor behaviour directly with Search Console and GA4.

When AI assistants recommend a brand, they often cite the brand's own site and what's been written about it. That's why your site sits at the centre of the entity clarity work I describe in the GEO implementation guide. Category and product page structure is covered in the e-commerce SEO guide.

When might your own site not be the priority yet?

The right timing differs for every brand. If your range is very narrow, you have no resources for content and cash flow is tight, a marketplace can be a lower-risk way to test demand. Learning which products sell, which words customers use and what questions they ask on the marketplace also strengthens the plan for your own site.

On the other hand, constantly postponing your own site has a cost. Domain age, accumulated content and links don't appear overnight. If you're weighing how to split budget between channels, the post on SEO vs Google Ads looks at a similar balance.

Running Trendyol and your own site together: how to split the roles

The model I use with many brands treats the marketplace as a sales channel and your own site as the brand and content hub. These are the steps I recommend:

  • Write product descriptions on your site that differ from, and go deeper than, the marketplace versions; don't copy the same text.
  • Keep brand name, product names and business details consistent across all channels.
  • In press coverage and partnerships, ask for the link to point to your own site wherever possible.
  • Prioritise category pages and guide content on your own site.
  • Build brand awareness while respecting the marketplace's customer communication rules.
  • Submit your product data to Google Merchant Center and check the free listing options available in your account.

On the Merchant Center side, Google's official documentation says free listings are available worldwide on some surfaces and only in certain countries on others; confirm eligibility in your own account. If you've reached the platform decision, the e-commerce platform SEO comparison will help.

How should you measure organic traffic on your own site and decide?

Once your site is live, I look at two metrics to guide decisions: clicks from non-branded searches and the trend in branded searches over time. Splitting Search Console queries into those that contain your brand name and those that don't shows whether the site is genuinely bringing in new customers. If branded searches rise, your marketplace visibility is creating demand for your own site too.

Tracking how often your brand is mentioned online is part of the same picture; a brand mention carries value for both SEO and GEO. I cover earning links in the backlink and digital PR guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Trendyol product pages already appear on Google. Isn't that enough?

It can bring sales in the short term, but the value those pages earn on Google builds up on the platform's domain, and the platform decides the page layout. Your own site gives you lasting visibility for the same searches on pages you control. The two complement each other rather than compete.

Can I use the same product description on Trendyol and my own site?

You can, but I don't recommend it. When the same text appears on several sites, Google often favours one of them, and that may well be the high-authority marketplace page. Writing original, more detailed descriptions with usage and care information on your own site works better.

How many months until my own site gets organic traffic?

Giving a fixed timeline wouldn't be honest; competition, content volume, domain history and technical setup all play a part. The first meaningful signals usually show up in branded and long-tail queries, while broad category searches take longer.

Can I direct marketplace customers to my own site?

Marketplaces have their own rules on customer communication and redirection. Check them in Trendyol's current seller agreement and official resources; building brand awareness through compliant channels is the safer approach.

Should my own site use a different brand name?

Usually not. Using the same brand name makes it easier for awareness built on the marketplace to turn into branded searches on Google. Spelling the name consistently everywhere also helps search engines and AI assistants recognise your brand as a single entity.
